Ferreira: We must win Premier League

Paulo Ferreira believes winning the FA Cup will have no meaning if Chelsea lost the Premier League title this season.

The Blues face Portsmouth at Wembley on May 15, and are at the summit of the English top flight. Ferreira said that he would be gutted if Chelsea did not going into the Cup fixture the champions of the Premier League.

"I think it would be an anti-climax in a way, because we are three years now without winning the league and of course we are not happy," Ferreira told the Ealing Gazette.

"A club like Chelsea should always try to win the league first and we want to do it this year. The last three years, Manchester United were better than us, but this season we have three games to win and it is in our hands.

"We don't want to think about going into the final game of the season at Wembley not being champions again. It happened before and we don't want that again because it's important to win titles - even if cups are also important.

"It's hard to win everything, but it was particularly disappointing not to win the Champions League this year."

The right-back also believes failures against Inter Milan in the Champions League will motivate Chelsea to attempt a domestic double this season.

"That will make us try even harder to make sure we go to the FA Cup final as champions."

Ferreira has been playing regularly recently due to the injuries to Jose Bosingwa and Branislav Ivannovic, and has made 12 starts in the season so far.
