Barcelona's Dani Alves has fanned the flames ahead of Saturday's El Clasico by claiming that Wayne Rooney is better than Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real - Ronaldo and all - entertain Barca at the Bernabeu in a game that could well shape the destiny of this season's La Liga title race.
With the Catalan giants trailing their bitter rivals only on goal difference at the top of Spain's top-flight, defender Alves is aware of the threat Ronaldo will pose to his team, but the Brazilian is adamant that Rooney's class is a cut above Ronaldo's.
"I have a real weakness for Rooney... he's incredible, incredible. He's fantastic. The way he works. He's perfect," Alves, who believes teammate Lionel Messi is the best footballer on the planet, told The Guardian.
"He's better than Ronaldo but Ronaldo took some shine off him last year.
"Rooney was practically playing at left-back sometimes. The game that he played here against Barcelona in the Champions League, when Ronaldo missed the penalty, he was at left-back.
"Sometimes it's hard in a team to have lots of players with big names; sometimes they take something away from each other.
"Right now, maybe Manchester United play better as a team than before, when they had Ronaldo. They're as good, or better, as they were."
