Adriano promises a new outlook

Adriano insists that he is a more mature person after being unveiled as a Roma player on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Brazilian passed a medical yesterday after leaving Flamengo following the end of his contract.

Adriano, who has signed a three-year contract, previously won four Serie A titles during his time with Inter Milan, but personal problems saw him depart the San Siro to return to his homeland.

But he is now back in Italian football and is ready to boost the Giallorossi as they look to improve on their second-place finish behind Inter last season.

"I am very happy to be back in Italy and to wear the Roma jersey," he told a press conference at Stadio Flaminio, where he was presented to fans wearing the number eight shirt.

"I know it will give me much responsibility, but many things have changed.

"I went to Brazil where I won back the happiness that I had lost, now I'm a new man, more mature, and I want to prove myself here.

"I do not make promises, you will see on the field."

But the forward admitted he has plenty of work to do on his fitness.

"Everyone knows I'm a bit overweight," he said.

"But now I have a project, I will resume training earlier than the rest of the team and I have more time to lose those pounds."

Adriano has also revealed he is looking forward to the possibility of linking up with Roma captain Francesco Totti, who he has already spoken to by phone, next season.

"I think Francesco can be a big help in attack and we can do well for Roma," he said.

"So far I have spoken to Totti and Daniele De Rossi of my new team-mates and I realise that this is a great family. I spoke with (manager Claudio) Ranieri and he said he has wanted to sign me for a long time, as long ago as when he was at Chelsea."

Roma president Rosella Sensi added: "I am happy to present a great champion like Adriano. It is not a gamble, but a certainty."
