Premier League:Rafael Benitez set for crunch talks
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is set to hold talks with chairman Martin Broughton this week to discuss his future at Anfield.
There has been increasing speculation that the Spaniard is on the verge of joining Italian giants Juventus.
Benitez refused to confirm his future after Liverpool's 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday. He has instead made a veiled attack on the club's owners by blaming his side's failures this season on the lack of investment on new players.
"I have four years left on my contract and I still have to talk with the new chairman," said Benitez. "Nothing is clearcut, nothing is straightforward. We have to wait. It is not just for me to ask one or two questions.
"I haven't met the chairman yet. But I will have a meeting with the new chairman in the next few days.
"If we have a conversation we will try and keep it private. It is just to talk about the future.
"You are asking about my future, but the future of the club is more important.
"The fans don't have any doubt about the commitment and passion we have shown this year. The fans want to know what is going on and I want to know."
Benitez has grown tired at the lack of stability behind the scenes at Anfield and broken promises over fresh investment.
"The manager has been taking responsibility at this club in the last few years for everything," he said.
"I don't know if that's the way it should be. The last few years it has been the manager's responsibility all the time.
"We have been trying to do our best for the beginning to the end.
"Now we have to carry on with the Hull game and another four more years of my contract.
"I was talking about speculation in the last two or three weeks and have been reading about a lot of managers in the news, but we cannot keep talking about the speculation.
"We have another game and we have to do our best until the end. We are thinking about doing things for the future.
"To be fair we were trying to our best last week, signing (Charlton teenager) Jonjo Shelvey because still we have the same mentality - to improve the club and do the best for the club."
Benitez also rejected the suggestion the half-hearted post-match lap around Anfield after the equally lacklustre defeat to Chelsea was his farewell to the supporters.
"We have to say thank you to our fans, as always, because they have been very good," he explained.
Benitez has also received the backing of midfielder Yossi Benayoun.
"When you are at a big club and things go bad, it is normal for the pressure to be put on the manager," said Benayoun, who was linked with a move away in January.
"Rafa has done a great job and we are trying not to look at what has happened in the past.
"Rafa has proven himself, he is a big manager. The people above will make the right decisions."
Benayoun admitted the squad were bitterly disappointed with the way the season had turned out, with early exits from the Champions League and FA Cup compounded by a failure to finish fourth.
But he stressed the off-field situation needed to be sorted sooner rather than later to bring some much-needed stability to the club.
"We have tried to do our best but it hasn't been good enough," said the midfielder, 30 on Wednesday, who has yet to decide his future.
"Liverpool are a great club and I enjoy it but a lot of things are happening in this moment and we will have to see it.
"A club like Liverpool must do everything they can to keep players like Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres but a lot of things can change and in a few weeks we will know better.
"It's very difficult to speak now about next season because we don't know what changes there will be [in the] the players, the staff
"I don't know personally even if I will be here or I will not be here."
