Premier League:Newcastle United back in top flight!

Newcastle United are back in the top flight having endured one of the worse seasons ever in the club's history last time out.

Hughton's Delight

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton paid tribute to his players and backroom staff after securing an immediate return to the Premier League.

The Magpies' promotion was confirmed after Nottingham Forest drew with Cardiff and a 2-1 Newcastle win against Sheffield United put the icing on the cake.

An emotional Hughton claimed that although securing promotion has always been the primary target, celebrating in front of the St James' Park crowd was a special bonus.

He also lauded his squad and coaching team and singled out assistant Colin Calderwood for praise.

"It's an incredible feeling, especially to do it here," he told Sky Sports after the victory over the Blades.

"And I think we all along said 'we'll take it whenever it is, at whatever stage'.

"But to do it here, with these supporters - there's been a lot of help along the way, we've had a great group of lads that have had a real focus all season.

"(And) a wonderful staff - Colin Calderwood, who's been next to me all season - it's (emotionally) a tough one."

The 51-year-old stated that the squad's focus will now switch to emerging from the season as Championship title winners.

Hughton added: "We've got games to play still, and we want to stay on top of this division.

"But it's a real honour to be manager of this football club at this moment and to bring this wonderful support back to the Premiership."
