Real Madrid might turn to Gerrard

La Liga leaders Real Madrid are reportedly planning to make a £30 million move for Liverpool's Steven Gerrard.

The Spanish giants have endured yet another disppointing campaign on the European stage this season - crashing out to Lyon in the round-of-16 last week.

Gerrard, despite Liverpool's woes this season, has a wealth of European experience, having won the Champions League with the Reds in 2005 and finishing runner-up in 2007.

Despite being considered an Anfield player through and through, reports in the Daily Star suggest Gerrard might seriously consider a move to another big club if Liverpool fail to shore up their side in the summer or if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League

Rafael Benitez men failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League this year and find themselves fighting for scraps in the Europa League.

Even the domestic campaign has been a massive disappointment after the highs of last year. Liverpool are currently placed fifth in the league - having played more games than all three of their rivals for fourth - Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham.

The 29-year-old has some of his best years ahead of him and he would want to exploit any opportunities to add to his trophy collection. A massive bid from Real might just tempt him despite his current contract tying him to Anfield until 2013.
