Vicente Del Bosque was left wanting more despite seeing Spain record their ninth successive win with a 2-0 triumph over France.
First-half goals from David Villa and Sergio Ramos secured Spain's first victory in France since 1968 and improved the European champions' remarkable run to 42 wins - including two after extra-time - in their last 45 fixtures.
Spain were deserving winners at the Stade de France but Del Bosque was not 100% satisfied, saying: "It's been a nice victory, but there were good things and bad in the game.
"We are demanding and we have to play better if possible.
"Maybe the result is better than the game, although we were not bad in possession. But the second half was lacklustre. We needed to be more aggressive in front of goal."
Looking ahead to this summer's World Cup, where Spain are one of the favourites for success, Del Bosque added: "In South Africa there are very strong opponents and although tonight we've overcome France, in the big tournaments there are banana skins that could make you slip up."
Spain's only defeat since 2006 came against the United States at last summer's Confederations Cup, and captain Iker Casillas believes that result could actually have been a positive for the team.
Casillas said after tonight's win: "It's important because we are on a good path. We've beaten former world champions and this inspires a positive feeling and confidence that is not just from now, but that we've strengthened over the last four years.
"Now we need to have the same humility as we've shown until now. We are playing with self-confidence. You also have to say that what happened at the Confederations Cup was good for us because it made us see it is good to keep our feet on the ground, which isn't going to be easy."
Casillas also won his 102nd cap for Spain tonight, moving him level with Raul in second place on the all-time list.
Only former goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta, with 126 appearances, is now in front of the 28-year-old and his Real Madrid club-mate.
"I never thought I would get to this figure and I must thank my team-mates and everyone who has helped, although I have to take some of the credit because it's not easy to reach this figure," Casillas told Spanish television.
