Sheringham: Becks has point to prove

Teddy Sheringham is supporting David Beckham’s attempt at revenge when AC Milan visit Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Beckham was offloaded by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2003, with the Red Devils boss furious with the off-the-pitch distractions brought about by the England international.

Sheringham believes Beckham will be on a mission to prove a point after being 'hurt' by his former manager's decision to sell him.

"Does he have a point to prove? Without a doubt. He will want to do really well to let Sir Alex know what he did by letting him go," Sheringham told the Daily Mail.

"He will want to put on his best performance. He will be itching to play, particularly at Old Trafford in the second leg."

Beckham admitted he was hurt when Ferguson sold him in his autobiography, My Side.

Beckham wrote: "The gaffer had had enough. I'd grown up as a person and he didn't seem to like what I'd become.

"Now (after a Champions League tie against Real Madrid in 2003) it looked like he'd seen enough of me as a player, as well. If it was anything to do with the gaffer - and, of course, it would be - I was sure I was finished."
