Champions League:Arsenal's Gallas a doubt against Porto

Arsenal are sweating over the fitness of William Gallas ahead of their second-leg Champions League clash against Porto next Tuesday.

The French defender has already been ruled out of the Premier League tie against Burnley this Saturday with a back injury. It is believed that this injury, which has plagued Gallas for a few weeks, has now affected his calf.

Gallas has not been playing for Arsenal since the Premier League victory over Liverpool on 10 February

According to The Guardian, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants Gallas to resume his place in the centre of defence as he does not have better options.

Sol Campbell may have done well against Stoke during Arsenal's impressive 3-1 win at Stoke, but he has struggled against Porto and was at fault for Porto's second goal in Arsenal's first-leg Champions League loss. It could also prove too much for the 35-year-old to be playing two matches in four days.

Arsenal may have to do with the inconsistent Mikael Silverstre alongside Thomas Vermaelen if Gallas is not fit.

"Gallas is still out," said Wenger, "and we have a little problem with Campbell. We will check on that before the Burnley game."
